Founded in 2016 by Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger, violinist Ann Marie Simpson-Einziger, and CEO Vik Singh, Mixhalo initially focused on enhancing concert audio before pivoting to sports and live events. The startup secured over $39 million from investors including Founders Fund and Fortress Investment. According to Singh, the rapid growth of voice AI models created an increasingly competitive pricing environment, making a strategic alignment with a major player like DeepL a natural evolution. The acquisition grew out of an organic connection between Singh and DeepL CTO Sebastian Enderlein.
DeepL has aggressively expanded its voice-to-text and voice-to-voice capabilities throughout 2024, now supporting over 33 languages. By absorbing Mixhalo, the company gains a proven platform to showcase its technology in high-stakes environments like crowded conference halls. DeepL CEO Jarek Kutylowski confirmed that the deal serves as both a technical integration and a strategic entry point into the U.S. market, with the company establishing a new office in the Bay Area to support these operations. Mixhalo will now compete directly against firms like Wordly AI and Palabra as it transitions into DeepL’s ecosystem.
