Marina Hyde

Marina Hydeis an English journalist, columnist and cultural commentator best known for her sharp, satirical writing for The Guardian. She has been a columnist at the newspaper since 2000, covering politics, celebrity culture, sport, media and public life.

Hyde began her journalism career at The Sun, where she worked on the showbiz desk before moving to The Guardian. At the paper, she first became known for writing the Diary column, later developing into one of the publication’s most prominent opinion writers. Her columns often mix political analysis, entertainment-industry observation and dry humour, making her a distinctive voice in British journalism.

Over her career, Hyde has written extensively about Westminster, celebrity culture, sport and the media business. She has received multiple industry honours, including the Edgar Wallace Award in 2020, and has been recognised by the Society of Editors and the Press Awards for her commentary work.

Beyond print journalism, Hyde is also known as the co-host of The Rest Is Entertainment podcast with Richard Osman. The show focuses on the entertainment industry, television, publishing, celebrity culture and the mechanics behind popular media.

Hyde is also the author of What Just Happened?!, a collection of her columns reflecting on British politics, media and public life during a turbulent period that included Brexit, Donald Trump’s presidency, the pandemic and multiple changes of UK prime minister.
