Alexander Horne

Alexander James Jeffery Horneis an English comedian, writer, musician, and television presenter best known as the creator of the BAFTA-winning comedy series Taskmaster. Born on September 10, 1978, Horne began his career in stand-up comedy after studying Classics at the University of Cambridge, where he was also involved in the university’s famous comedy scene.

Horne first gained recognition performing stand-up at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where his inventive and experimental comedy style quickly earned attention. Alongside his solo work, he formed the musical comedy group The Horne Section, a live band that blends music with improvised comedy. Horne performs as the band’s host and bandleader, and the group has appeared across multiple platforms, including BBC Radio 4, the television channel Dave, and the comedy panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. He also hosts The Horne Section Podcast and the band’s television series.

Horne’s biggest breakthrough came in 2015 with the launch of Taskmaster, a comedy game show he created. The series features comedians competing in unusual and often absurd challenges. Horne appears on the show as the Taskmaster’s assistant, working alongside host Greg Davies, who plays the imposing Taskmaster judging the contestants’ efforts. The format became a major success, winning a BAFTA award and spawning international adaptations in numerous countries.

In addition to Taskmaster and his work with The Horne Section, Horne has continued performing stand-up, writing comedy, and appearing on British television and radio. Known for his creative approach to comedy and his role in shaping one of the UK’s most successful panel shows of the past decade, he remains a prominent figure in British entertainment.
